Why do I need a vehicle tracking system?

Vehicle tracking is there to help your business save money and operate more efficiently. There are not many businesses that would not benefit from a tracking system, but if you are one of those few then don't spend money for the sake of it, talk to us we will be happy to come to visit you to show you how our tracking system can benefit you. We will not give you any 'hard sell' tactics and will never try to sell you more than you actually need. Why? Because we want our customers to benefit from the system, that way they may recommend it to others.

How does the tracking system work?

To avoid boring you with high tech scientific waffle, the simple explanation is this. Satellites orbiting the earth pick up the location of the vehicle (GPS) this is very accurate and is usually within a few feet. The hardware in the vehicle stores this information and transmits it back to the server via a mobile phone network using a system called GPRS (which is an “always on” data connection). Your office computer accesses this information from the server through your existing internet connection, all this happens in an instant! The tracking system also sends a host of other information to the server including ignition on / off, vehicle speeds and mileage. We will show you a live fleet and give you a full demonstration when we come to meet you.

What will be involved in implementing a tracking system?

The whole process is relatively simple. We will help you to decide which package is most suited to your needs and which pieces of equipment you will require. We will complete all the paperwork, all you need to do is arrange a time for us to come and carry out the installations.

What are the equipment options?

The main piece of equipment is called a 'Qube'. This is fitted to the vehicle and will operate all the main tracking functions, including ignition on/off, speed etc. In addition to the Qube you can opt for additional extras such as the MDT. This is a screen which is fitted in the cab of the vehicle; this supports instant messaging between base and vehicle, driver ID and daily vehicle checks. The MDT is a really useful tool and can easily pay for itself with a reduction in communication costs. Other options include the MNav 650 navigation system, which can be used in place of an MDT, the MNav has all the functions of the MDT but also incorporates satellite navigation for the driver and the ability to send routes from the office. There is the option of a ConEx module, this is more specialised and is used to relay information regarding electrical systems to the server. For example, if you need to know when a PTO is used, a sweeper brush is engaged or a bin-lift operated then the conex is for you . We can discuss this in more detail if this is of interest.

Is it expensive?

The cost depends on what you need from the system. The majority of our customers tell us that the system saves them much more than it costs. We are happy to discuss costs and provide a written quotation.

Will it cause bad feeling among my employees?

You may find that some employees are not happy about being tracked, this normally disappears within a couple of weeks, if it does not you need to ask yourself why? If they are working as they should be then the system can only help them. Bad feeling may already be present in those employees who do work hard for you company, as they are seeing others get away with not working so hard or opting for less ethical working practices. Use this as an incentive to encourage your good employees ! We are experts at dealing with an awkward employee so if it becomes an issue just contact your account manager who will be pleased to help.

Should I lease or purchase the equipment?

This is your choice, and we are happy to discuss this at our initial meeting. However, most customers chose to lease as the cost is spread and they see a bigger return on their investment.

Will I need to supply any equipment?

You do not need to supply anything, all you need is at least one computer to run the system on and access to the internet. The software (AVL 2) will even be installed on your computer for you during your training session.

Will it invalidate a vehicles warranty or damage the vehicle?

In short No, Our engineers are fully trained and insured to work on your vehicle. Modern vehicle electrical systems are complex things but our engineer’s do this day in day out and will have completed installations in the same vehicle many times. All installations are carried out to the industry standard of FCS1362 , we are approved by the Federation of communication services and hold the silver award charter from the Radio communications Qualities Council, your vehicle is in safe hands.

Can I add additional vehicles at a later date?

Yes, once you have the system it is simple to add new vehicles, just contact your account manager who will complete the paper work and arrange the installation(s).

Will my insurance company give me a discount?

Every insurance company is different, ring them and ask. A tracking system makes you less of an insurance risk. Point out to them that vehicle theft, speeding and unauthorised use will be much less likely to take place with a tracking system in place. Provide them with proof of this via a report as most insurance companies recognise this, they are starting to implement tracking to monitor vehicle usage themselves!
